5 Reasons why you SHOULD NOT Buy a Mitsubishi Triton Ute

12 January 2023

The Mitsubishi Triton line-up is praised by many Kiwis as one the best utes in its class. With every new generation of the iconic workhorse, The Mitsubishi Triton wins over more fans in the New Zealand market, and over the past decade, we have seen it carve itself a bigger piece of this pie with every new iteration. The 2021 Mitsubishi Triton and the addition of the New Mitsubishi Triton GSR 4WD Auto in 2023 have allowed the Triton to continue its momentum - claiming its spot as the third best-selling ute in 2022.

But that begs the question, does the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton deserve the hype?

Well, you might have wondered if there was a typo in our headline… The answer is “no, there’s no typo”, we just wanted to approach this topic in an entertaining, but still quite informative way. So here are 5 cheeky reasons why you should NOT buy the Mitsubishi Triton.

#1 The Triton's Advanced Safety Features Make Keeping your Loved Ones Safe Too Easy

You've honed your skills behind the wheel. You know how to handle any situation you might come across in your ute.

Your passengers know that. They RESPECT you for that. So why is the Mitsubishi Triton packed with advanced standard safety features that are usually only available in premium models of other utes?

Its automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning systems make staying safe too easy. Where's the challenge? And how are your loved ones going to respect your driving if Mitsubishi's safety features are doing half of the work? Why would you need Forward Collision Mitigation when you have a perfectly good windscreen in front of you and your razor-sharp reflexes?

You've made it this far without rolling a ute because you know how to drive. As far as we are concerned, Hill Descent Control just isn't necessary.

But it doesn't stop there, the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton GSR also brings a Multi Around View Monitor to its list of conveniences and safety features - taking away all exercise your neck was getting, whipping your head around and sticking it out of the window to check everything is clear.

If Mitsubishi had just considered your driving abilities, they could have achieved Triton's 5-star ANCAP rating without all the industry-leading safety features.

#2 The Triton's Impressive Towing Capacity Makes it Impossible to Know Who Your Real Friends Are

You know how when you work out at the gym, suddenly everyone wants you to help them move house because they think you're strong? Think that, but to an even greater extent when you own a Mitsubishi Triton. With its impressive towing capacity, up to 3.5 tonnes, you'll instantly become everyone's best friend every time they need something towed. Are they really friends, or are they just after your Triton's versatility?

And don't even get us started if they convince you to buy a boat. Just because your Triton can pull a decent-sized boat, it's now up to you to own that too? With the ability to go 4WD full time, even on the tarmac without any risk of damaging the vehicle, just wait until your so-called friends start manipulating you into buying a boat so you can all go out fishing together. Don't be fooled - odds are they aren't your mates, they're your Triton's mates.

#3 The Triton is a Family Friendly Ute, Meaning You'll Be stuck with the Kids

If towing your mate's trailers and being able to park the Triton at the grocery shops weren't enough, the Mitsubishi Triton range, especially the Double Cab variants, are perfect for the whole family. With comfortable rear seats and air conditioning designed to circulate through the entire interior,  you'll find yourself stuck with the kids in the back more often than not.

What did you get a ute for again? Oh that's right, to do some proper work and look tough for your friends. So why would Mitsubishi make it so family-friendly? It just doesn't add up.

Don't let Mitsubishi take away your true ute identity and turn you into a family man (or woman). Steer clear of the Triton - there are plenty of other utes that don't have such a family-friendly design. Stick to those and remain the tough, independent driver you've always been.

#4 The Triton Offers Excellent Value for Money, which Means You'll Be Tempted to Buy Things You Don't Really Need Just Because You Have the Extra Cash.

Remember that boat we mentioned earlier? It's just the start of all the additional things you're going to want to buy with all the money you save buying a Mitsubishi Triton.

The Triton range offers excellent value for money, meaning you'll be tempted to buy things you don't really need just because you have the extra cash. Suddenly, you'll find yourself justifying purchases on the basis that they're "investments" rather than impulse buys - and before you know it, your bank account will be a lot emptier than you had planned.

For instance, take Simon Lucas Mitsubishi's latest offer on the all new 2023 Mitsubishi Triton GSR. Secure your new GSR before 31 March 2023, and pay just $49,990 + delivery costs. It doesn't stop there, in addition to this, Simon Lucas Mitsubishi will pay the Clean Car Scheme’s "ute tax" - a saving of $4082.50 on top of the normal sticker price.

That is way too much financial security for our taste.

#5 The Triton's Trailer Stability Assist Feature Will Make You Forget You're Towing a Trailer.

The Mitsubishi Triton range comes with a Trailer Stability Assist feature that makes towing a trailer feel effortless. Simply connect the trailer and let the Triton's advanced computer take care of the rest - it automatically applies brakes to maintain stability, making you forget you're even towing a trailer in the first place.

Because of this, it is going to take way more mental effort to remember that you are towing a trailer.  Learning to efficiently tow a trailer used to build character. Now it's as easy as regular old driving... and because of this, even your mates that convinced you to buy a boat might just ask to borrow your Triton. Towing with the Triton’s Trailer Stability Assist is so easy, they  really won’t need you anymore. They can leave you behind now and tow it themselves.
